SAM, Inc.’s airborne LiDAR mapping services include aerial data acquisition from both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter. With multiple data processing software systems that allow us to tailor LiDAR data processing to meet your specific needs, our extensive network, processing and people-power offers a scalability of resources to ensure quality and timely delivery of your airborne surveying products.

LiDAR Acquisition
Utilizing both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter, we collect LiDAR data to the meet the specific density and accuracy needs of your projects. The collected data is immediately processed and verified to confirm complete data acquisition coverage. Any seams, holes or other unwanted artifacts are quickly identified to assess the need for any data acquisition re-capture. Once approved, the data is both archived and prepared for production.

LiDAR Processing
SAM, Inc. has dedicated LiDAR processing network, hardware and software recourses. We have more than 100 terabytes of dedicated storage space for mapping projects, banks of process servers, close to 100 CPU’s available for distributed data processing tasks, and multiple state-of-the-art processing workstations. SAM, Inc. has numerous seats of LiDAR processing software, including the industry standard suite of TerraSolid and GeoCue products. SAM, Inc. is skilled at producing LiDAR derived mapping deliverables in all industry-standard CAD formats.

LiDAR Data Classification and Feature Extraction
Using the latest data processing and classification software enterprises, our experienced technicians begin initial automated filtering and feature extraction to accurately collect all required data deliverables. Effective auto filter routines can produce very clean bare earth LiDAR. However, it is always necessary to complete a manual review and edit of the data. The manual edit process eliminates any remaining anomalies and misclassifications within the data set. Experienced LiDAR technicians review the data in GeoCue/TerraSolid software and make any corrections to the point classifications.
