In 2002, the Austin Business Journal profiled our founder Samir Hanna and SAM, Inc., telling the story of how Mr. Hanna left his homeland of Egypt in 1970 with only $250 and a goal of one day financially supporting his family. At the time of the article, SAM, Inc. had successfully grown to 70 employees in only 8 years.
Today, that number has more than tripled. With more than 350 highly skilled experts, SAM, Inc. is the leader in providing complete geospatial solutions to a wide variety of industries.
Under the direction of Mr. Hanna, SAM, Inc. has expanded its initial offering of professional land surveying services to include digital aerial mapping (photogrammetry), terrestrial, mobile and airborne LiDAR services, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination, and geographic information systems (GIS). The firm also has a wholly owned subsidiary called SAM-Construction Services, Inc. to provide construction phase services. Mr. Hanna's philosophy of recruiting the best people and providing the most advanced equipment and training has become a primary driver pushing the firm’s efficiency to its maximum.
As president, with sharp focus on quality of work and customer satisfaction, Mr. Hanna personally guides the company's methodology and approach to delivering services. He also participates directly in quality control and troubleshooting, including developing solutions to unique problems.
The Austin Business Journal ended its article with an observation that defines the culture at SAM, Inc. It noted that, unlike many business owners, Mr. Hanna had not become detached from the work performed by his company’s employees. “I value the people that work for me,” said Mr. Hanna, “Without them, there’s no other way we could succeed.”
